About us

With my longing for vastness, wilderness and freedom, which was already pronounced in my younger days, I have regularly traveled to the most diverse regions of Canada for many years. After British Columbia, Yukon, Alberta, Ontario, Quebec, New Brunswick, I finally discovered Nova Scotia for myself. In the beginning I went “only” once a year to the country of my dreams. But with the growing need to leave the hustle and bustle of my European home behind me more and more often, the number and duration of my escapes grew as well. In 2011, heavily influenced by the “addictive factor Nova Scotia”, my enthusiasm for this part of the world culminated in the purchase of my own lakefront property and the construction of my own vacation cottage on the shores of Kempt Back Lake. That home, after appropriate remodeling, now serves as the lodge’s main house. In 2018, the acquisition of neighboring land followed, on which today our guest cabins are located. After a long career in the international freight forwarding business, my partner and I have never regretted our decision to gradually put down roots here in Nova Scotia. It is not only the local nature and the idyllic places and landscapes that fascinate us so much. The friendly and uncomplicated Nova Scotians have also quickly grown close to our hearts. The idea for GoFo Lodge is a lifelong dream come true. After retiring from the stressful transportation industry, we just wanted to do what we are really passionate about: being in Canada while doing something meaningful and fulfilling. Economic reasons did not play a major role in the realization of this project. No, it was mainly about living a fulfilled life in a new stage of life and doing what we really want to do: to take care of our guests and to make sure that you don’t miss anything here in our little nature and vacation paradise. The vacation days spent with us should remain unforgettable memories for the guest – our small teams we are committed to it and every day.
